Henry Riley are a leading, global construction and property consultancy. We have an exciting opportunity available for a Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team within the Midlands region.

Our Midlands region continues to experience significant growth as we pick up new clients and projects in the residential, retail, industrial and leisure sectors. In addition to this, we have recently launched our new and pioneering Carbon Advisory Service which is being manged from the Midlands and we have ambitions to establish ourselves as the premier embodied carbon consultancy in the UK.

We feel strongly that we can provide candidates with a unique and exciting portfolio of projects to develop their skills and experience whilst working with us. This will consist of projects across multiple sectors and service offerings including traditional cost management, acting in the employer’s agent role, providing fund monitoring services and offering strategic carbon advisory services to our clients.

We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor who has had experience of carrying out a full range of pre and post contract duties for a similar construction consultancy. You will ideally have started your APC diary and be making strong progress to becoming a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with the RICS.

Hybrid working is standard practice to all our employees, and we have offices in Leicester and Birmingham in the Midlands region. We are happy for the successful candidate to be assigned to either office to suit your convenience.

Key tasks and responsibilities of the Quantity Surveyor role include:

  • Working as part of a team of Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers reporting into the Technical Director whilst providing a cost consulting role the client.
  • Ensure that our clients achieve their stated objectives through close teamwork, proactive cost control and the provision of contractual advice.
  • Attend and/or chair meetings with client.
  • Prepare financial reports .
  • Monitor the communication of a project status.
  • Prepare full tender documentation .
  • Provide advice on contractors, specialists, procurement routes, cost and programme solutions.
  • Provide advice on suitability and preparation of contract documents.
  • Prepare management reports.
  • Monitor performance milestones and deliverables.
  • Administer cost/variation procedures.
  • Carry out full post contract surveying duties including establishing the effect of variations, settlement of accounts and disputes.
  • Provide day-to-day cost management of projects from estimate preparation through to final account settlements.
     

Desired qualifications and experience:

  • A relevant degree or masters qualification in quantity surveyor or similar equivalent subject
  • Started you APC and working towards RICS status. Full support can be provided via our APC Programme to candidates needing to complete their APC process.
  • Prior experience of working in a Quantity Surveying role for a similar consultancy carrying out full pre and post contract duties.
  • Experience of working on large scale, complex projects within the built environment is desired.
  • Strong client facing and stakeholder engagement skills are essential and demonstrable experience of acting in the lead role to the client, providing traditional cost management services.
  • Prior experience of working in the Employers Agent role would be advantageous but may not be essential.
  • Familiar with common forms of contract such as JCT and NEC.
  • Demonstrable experience of carrying out tendering and procurement processes.
