Due to continued growth within the London and South East region, we are looking to strengthen our cost management team of Quantity Surveyors to work across a variety of large scale, exciting developments throughout the South East region.

Henry Riley provide cost management and project management services to an exciting variety of growing clients in the South East region and currently boasts a portfolio of developments which spans across the full breadth of the built environment. This includes projects across the residential, retail and leisure sectors.

We are looking to hire an ambitious Quantity Surveyor who has gained full membership to the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or is currently working towards chartership and will be looking to attain full membership in the next 12 months. For candidates in the latter scenario, Henry Riley can provide structured support in achieving this via our internal APC Programme, which currently has over 50 members of staff enrolled.

Key tasks and responsibilities of the Quantity Surveyor role include:

  • Working as part of a team of Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers reporting into the Executive Director whilst providing a cost consulting role the client.
  • Ensure that our clients achieve their stated objectives through close teamwork, proactive cost control and the provision of contractual advice.
  • Attend and/or chair meetings with client.
  • Prepare financial reports .
  • Monitor the communication of a project status.
  • Prepare full tender documentation .
  • Provide advice on contractors, specialists, procurement routes, cost and programme solutions.
  • Provide advice on suitability and preparation of contract documents.
  • Prepare management reports.
  • Monitor performance milestones and deliverables.
  • Administer cost/variation procedures.
  • Carry out full post contract surveying duties including establishing the effect of variations, settlement of accounts and disputes.
  • Provide day-to-day cost management of projects from estimate preparation and cost planning through to final account settlements.

Desired qualifications and experience:

  • A relevant degree or masters qualification in quantity surveying or similar RICS accredited subject/course.
  • Candidates should be highly motivated to achieve chartered status with the RICS and ideally have made significant progress towards achieving this. Full support can be given to completing this after joining Henry Riley through our internal APC programme.
  • Demonstrable experience of acting in the lead Quantity Surveying role on large scale, complex projects whilst carrying out a full range of pre and post contract duties.
  • Prior experience of working on a variety of projects across the build environment.
  • Prior experience of acting in the Employers Agent role is desirable.
  • Familiar with common forms of contract such as JCT and NEC.
  • Demonstrable experience of carrying out tendering and procurement processes.
  • Prior experience of using CostX software and preparing detailed cost plans.
  • Ambitious by nature with a positive and pro-active approach to the role as well as a willingness to embrace responsibility on projects and develop professionally.
