Project Description:

The project comprised the refurbishment of two existing Raked Lecture Theatres in Blackett Building Room 113 and RSM Building Room 147 to provide new high quality modern interactive Lecture Theatres with the flexibility to facilitate group working as well as traditional didactic teaching.

This is part of the College’s strategic plans for improvements to teaching rooms across its campuses. These refurbishments are the first of a type for the College.

Features of the new theatres include:

  • New tiered flooring built over existing tiered floors to minimise disruption. As a result, no major structural works were required.
  • Extended floor platforms to facilitate new high quality seating with fixed tables arranged in clusters to facilitate group working.
  • Easy access for the lecturer to move around to interact with student groups
  • High quality wall panelling and timber slat ceiling finishes.
  • Stainless steel power modules at each desk position to facilitate laptops.
  • New integrated lighting schemes to include for individual lighting control at desks with spotlight switches for each desk incorporated in the power modules, and various lighting scene settings controlled from the lecterns.
  • High quality AV packages coordinated with the architectural and electrical designs.
