Project Description:

The project consisted of the construction of a 1,822ft² GIA single storey extension to the North West Heart Centre building at Wythenshawe Hospital, providing a significant strategic development for the Greater Manchester region to enable Cardio-Respiratory research and Respiratory imaging research as part of the Manchester Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (MCMR) imaging programme.

The facility houses a new Siemens MAGNETOM Vida 3T MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Scanner with associated MRI Control room, MRI Technical room and adjacent supporting and ancillary spaces.

The project involved the phased realignment of a busy estate road with access maintained for staff and general public during the works, and the diversion of existing oil, gas and fire hydrant pipelines; the oil and gas pipelines both serve the same boiler in the main hospital building, the operation of which cannot be interrupted.
